FINAL BLOG MAY 2ND

1.Blogging will be useful to me as a teacher, because it will help me express my feelings, give other students and teachers ideas, and allow me to be creative. Wikis may or may not be useful to me as a teacher. Presentations will be extremely useful to me as a teacher because I will always be presenting things to my students, I learned a lot about presentations. Google Docs was very insightful I learned so much, it will be useful in my teaching career to help me organize and create different documents that can be used by my students. Google spreadsheet has been used before by me but I learned a little more about it in this class and I am sure I will use it as a teacher to do grades, seating charts and many other things. Podcasts may not be used by me anymore but if I do decide to use it, it will be useful as a teacher. Youtube will not be useful to me as a teacher. Movie making will be useful as a teacher I think it will be exciting to my students. Post I read will be useful for ideas from others. PLN's will always be useful to teachers for a networking purpose. Twitter can also be used for me as a teacher to keep up with other teachers and friends I may have. Comments for kids will not be useful to me as a teacher. Comments for classmates will not be useful either. Comments for teachers will not be useful. iTunes and iTunesU will be useful for me to receive information when I am a teacher. Google Earth will not be useful to me as a teacher. Delicious will be useful for me as a teacher to organize all my networks. ALEX will be useful for lesson planning. I have learned every project we ever done and I can use this knowledge one day as a professional.

2.There is nothing I would have liked to learn in this class other then the things I have already learned.

3.Everything I learned in this class is valuable and I may use each of them again. There is one thing I did not have to use and that is ACCESS do not think I will be reusing that.

4.This class was useful due to all the new technologies I have learned to use. Google Earth really excited me, it was very interesting. I looked up my house and it showed it that was very interesting to me. Twitter has been my new best friend, I love it! I wish I would have been known about iTunesU years ago becuase it is very use full.

5.I found a lot of the projects to be intellectually challenging. The directions were not clear so figuring out how to do lots of things was difficult. Things like Google Earth and developing my PLN. I do think the instructions are what made everything more challenging.

6.I was bored by this class often. What bored me was commenting on other classmates blogs on topics I just discussed on my own blog, also writing blogs weekly. I did not like commenting to some videos I did not find interesting. Class time was boring because we never did projects together or received much help. We were always told its word for word in the syllabus. The way to correct it would be to have a check list to keep up with the class and make sure everyone is on task because it is easy to fall behind in this class if you do not stay on top of your work.

7.I would change this class in many ways. First I would start with the grading system. As a student I like to know how I am doing throughout the semester and what I can do to improve my grade. If you do not know your grade how can you improve? I would then work on organization!!! This class is not organized at all it is too many different places to retrieve your work and that gets confusing. We have weekly blogs, work on the class blog, projects on the syllabus, and also work on google docs coming in. All work should be listed in one place! The syllabus is a good place or just all in google docs, but one place is good enough. Also the way work is set up on the syllabus is confusing at first we have videos to watch about certain projects but some of the videos are unnecessary. I believe a lot could be taught in class.

8.Yes I am technologically literate now.... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! I know way more then I knew in January and that is a great thing. Podcasts is so easy before it seemed very difficult, that also goes for blogging, twitter, google forms, google spreadsheets, surveys, delicious, skype, and vocaroo.

9.I will maintain my technological literacy from now own by using these tools. Mainly twitter, google docs, reading post, commenting using vocaroo, google earth, and delicioius.

Personal Learning Network update

Having a Personal Learning Network is a awesome idea. I have developed mine through out the year and it is getting bigger and bigger as the day goes by. It allows me to receive information about many different teaching skills, also learn tips from other current teachers. Certain opportunities are open up when you network with other professionals through twitter, facebook and other networks, these opportunities can help you with you own classroom. It is a good way to follow and keep in touch with educators all over the US. The main thing I am going to use as an future educator borrowing ideas from other teachers, friends, and family. My PLN is a simple way to do just that. I can view projects and other things that others have created. On my twitter account I am currently following at least 15 educators and they have great information about teaching. Due to this class I am able to see other teachers blogs and I have kept in touch with a lot of the ones I have commented on blog post. While following my technology literate teachers such as Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Strange, and Dr. Juarez they have put up good points about technology in the classroom. PLN is a very good idea for future educators and it should be taken advantage of by each student.

Interview

My interview was with my past special education instructor. Our discussion was on inclusion of exceptional students in the general education classroom. The conversation lasted well over 20 minutes. She discussed the pros and cons of exceptional students being in the general education classroom. Students who need extra help in class should be pulled out of the class and focused on individually. Peer tutoring is one of the pros for a exceptional student to be involved in. They can also focus on their self esteem in classrooms with other students, because they are not label and put in a category separate from all other students. A con of inclusion is that the teacher must take a lot of time with certain students and other students my miss out on their own learning. I believe students should be in some general education classes such as P.E. music and classes they do not struggle in with regular students. The classes they struggle in should be separate from the general population, because they are losing out on education if they can not receive the help they need and so are the general education students.

Time Toast of Beyonce'

SKYPE

Skype in my opinion is a great advance in technology. It allows you to talk to people over the internet. This is pretty neat being that you can see them. It is good for people who do not get to see the ones they love often. I have skyped a lot for some months now. I have skyped family in different states, mainly my cousin and best friend from Mississippi, I have skyped other friends of the family, and for this class I used skype with my professor Dr. Juarez. She participated in a converstion with me and she really enjoyed it. We discussed education in general, some things about the new curriculum in education, and some assignments in class I need to complete. Skype is very entertaining but also has its down falls like any other program of technology. The delays on movement or voice is very bothersome, you miss out on information and sometimes want to give up on the whole process. Many times you do not have time to be caught in a delayed situation especially when it is with someone you do not know or a business person that does not have patience when it comes to helping you out. There is a chat method that you can use on skype and you also can use it like a telephone. Overall skype is a great means of connection and a great learning tool for students and teachers.

7th grade PLE vs. My PLE
In the videocast, this seventh grader shocked me!! I did not know that this much technology was being used in junior high schools now. She stated that the class is practically paperless, and that scares me. I am not a internet lover I need my paper and pencil every once in a while. I do however think that it is awesome that students are becoming so advanced with technology. She demonstrated her use of her PLE, and showed how she uses it for personal and school use. On her top rows she had her social networks like facebook, myspace, youtube, music, and other things. On her bottom row she reserved it for her classroom learning she researched off of youtube, delicious, google, and other networks. She could find her class assignments on her posts. My PLE is organized on my blogger account I am adding different links to it now that transfer to different websites. I am also following certain people on twitter to see what information I can learn from their tweets. PLE is very exciting, but I could definitely use some help from this talented seventh grade student.
Two Questions
This video affected me a great deal. Daniel Pink was right on when he thought of these to motivational questions. The first was "What's your sentence?" He discussed great people like Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin Roosevelt that had a sentence to discribe them, he even said how Kennedy was creating a paragraph. He moves us to make our own sentence which can be your goal to live by and drive to accomplish anything. My task is to create my own sentence.
The second question was "Was I better today than yesterday?" This was very spiritual it inspires you to become better day after day, and will only be completed one step at a time.
I enjoyed this video and know it will affect me, because I have been trying to become better and better day by day. I know that if I start asking myself this question every day I will improve.

Comments 4Kids Week 14

I commented on a bending light blog post for kids. It was very informative. I learned a lot of what I never knew. The topic was about colors and reflections, also known as refractions. They used acrylic shapes and shined light through them to find out what effect the shape had on beams of light. They shined two colors of light through two 45-90-45 triangular prisms. The first one inverts the light rays in a way that it exits the first prism, the second puts it back in normal status. They said this is what happens in binoculars. It was a very interesting topic.

In EDM 310 google docs has been a great help. I feel that it is a great tool to use in school and business life. It has an application for everything. I really enjoyed doing the survey document under google docs. It allowed me to organize the responses and compare and contrast peoples response. I really like the options to choose from and how the documents and mail are separated. It is a great advancement in technology.

Posting students work has always been a scary thing to do. Majority of the time the parents are scared something bad will happen to their child because of the exposure on the internet. No we are realizing that posting blogs or videos on your students is actually a good thing. In the video from the PS22 this showed how important and how meaningful it can be when you post students works. As a teacher seeing your students works done well in person is a great feeling, but being able to share it with the world is awesome. Other encounters from this class include the podcast from class, the videos we view from comments for kids, and also the comments for classmates. We get to view very important information when we look at these different items. Comments for classmates help show a different perspective of the assignments we just completed ourselves. I think it is important to post blogs, it exercises your brain and allows a release in the form or writing.

Final Comments for Teachers

Comment 1
Well Mrs. Galloway to add the pressure on you I will start off by saying my name is Brook McNair, I am a student at University of South Alabama and we are doing a project in my microcomputing class on comments for teachers. We are to follow your for 3 weeks and comment on at least 3 different post!! :) This is crazy I am sure, it almost feels like you are getting signs to use your blog! No real worries though, because if you do not post anything recent I can always comment on your previous post. This first impression of you was great and I love the pictures! You can visit our class blog at http://www.edm310.blogspot.com/ or my personal blog is http://mcnairbrookedm310.blogspot.com I look forward to some new exciting post from you, and what is your husbands link so I can read up on him.... since it seems he is the "blogger" in the family! Nice to meet you.
Comment 2
I really love your blog post. You do not do many but when you do you get to the point and keep me reading. I can tell that you are a pretty cool and laid back teacher, would have been nice to be in your class. I took a lot from this blog post. You and your students are so correct there is no such thing as privacy on the internet, people will find ways to figure things out almost all the time. Facebook is a great means of connection to people all over the world I am happy that Gina has gotten her writings out so quickly, being that she is only in the 8th grade. She should keep dreaming big and anything is possible. Well done.
Comment 3
Good luck on starting the classroom guidance next year. Counselors are such big deals in people lives especially young people. I enjoyed reading your post, keep up the good work.

2nd Comments for Teachers

Comment 1
Nicely put Ms. Bonham. I think this was a great post to open my eyes to new things. I had never heard of the Ideas Culture until now and it seemed like a good idea. Majority of the time we are all one sided on issues, but your idea of looking at it through a different lens is a great idea. I am a student at University of South Alabama and will we reading and commenting to a couple more of your post. We have a class blog if you would like to visit is is http://www.edm310.blogspot.com/ and my personal blog is http://mcnairbrookedm310.blogspot.com
Comment 2
I can not think of a name for it! I do not think I am creative enough, but this is a great idea. Is it more people who know of this challenge? I think it is a risk schools should take. Everyone would walk away a winner, even if they did not receive the money. They could use the ideas stated by the other schools. I enjoyed this post, and think a lot more people should read it.
Comment 3
I love your determined attitude! It is just what is needed to start things this big. I will pray all goes well. I am a believer that technology is taking the world by storm, and the schools should keep up. Whatever I can do to help just let me know my email is bmcnair21@gmail.com. I can definitely let my teacher know about this also.

1st Comments for Teachers

Mrs. Thumann 2/22/10-3/21/10
Comment 1
Very good post Ms. Thumann. I am a student at the University of South Alabama, I was assigned to read you post and comment on three. My class is microcomputing and our main focus at this point is PLN's which is the point in this post. I was never sure what a PLN was and your voice thread cleared it up even more for me. Twitter is going to be a asset to my PLN. I love how your post shows the importance of being technology literate and using technology as a advantage in schools these days. The things said in your discussion will be very helpful to me and my career as a teacher. I loved all the good ideas you all came up with. I can tell you are passionate about your career. I will be posting my journey through your post on my blog you can view it at http://mcnairbrookedm310.blogspot.com we also have a class blog http://www.edm310.blogspot.com/
Comment 2 (Social networking in high school)
This was just a discussion me and a few classmates had last week. It is outrageous how many passwords to remember and how many different emails to check on a day to day basis, and sometimes several times a day. It is no real solution to it, because the internet is so diverse and so are people. This makes it hard since everyone likes something different. I like the idea that each school has a website. The problem with that is we almost never use it, and its loaded with junk mail. I personally love Facebook as a network and just getting use to twitter, so that puts Myspace at the bottom of the list for me. So what do we do?
Comment 3 (Google video)
Cute video! I think ill be singing it in class this Thursday. The message is clear though. Google is the best search engine around. I use if for just about anything, my fingers are trained to type it in even when I am trying to visit another site. I will be showing this video to my teach, because he is crazy about Google.

Comments 4Kids Week 13

I commented on Turuhira's video from room 14. I love these video's the students are in they are short and to the point. Her video was about camping she believed a good camper is kind to each other. That is a good concept to teach each child. I enjoyed it.

Comments 4Kids Week 12

I commented on Sateki's beach story video. It was his first one of the year and he did a good job. It was only 4 seconds, and he was to the point. I think this is a good thing the student gets to do.

Comments 4Kids Week 10

I commented on Jenna's post "We are the World for Hati." She is a student in Mrs. Kolbert's class. Her post went into grave detail about the song We are the World by Micheal Jackson. She informed me on a lot of information I did not know about the song, such as producers and other people who were on the project in 1985. I enjoyed her post.

Comments 4Kids Week 9

I posted on lessons learned March 19th from Mr. McLung's class. The post discussed a brownie contest the class participated in. The winner's raised $53 to go towards their $500 class donation for Race for a Cure. That is very impressive. I love the fact that a lot of the classes I have been commenting on does community service by donating, the last class I had was raising money for Haiti. This is very good.

Comments 4Kids Week 8

I commented on kindergarten days, day 108. It was a well organized post and showed all that the kids did through out the day. It brought back child hood memories for me why the discussed the treasure box. When I was in kindergarten we also had a treasure box we could get things out of if we were good. However, I do not remember getting steak sandwiches for lunch like these kids. All I can remember are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! :)

Comments 4Kids Week 7

I commented on Ben D. and Brandon K. from Mrs. Quam's class. In Ben's post he described his backyard as a place I might want to visit. He was very descriptive about everything. He painted me a visual picture of the backyard. His post was well done. Brandon's post were poems. I read all but commented on my favorite which was: War over Peace thundering guns

Fighting for a home that we can
call ours
beat the drums on the edge of the end
for when a new year come inspiration
shall splend
I considered this great and I do not know how old he is, but I love kids with poetic minds.

Personal Learning Network

I have come to realize what a personal learning network is and found out I have been building mine for a long time now. It is not very big at the moment, but I am working on it. I hope it expands over time. Some tools I use are facebook, myspace, and twitter.

Mr.C class blog

Great blogs I must say. I use to think that this class was not interesting, I did not get the point, it was a waste of time, but now I get it. As a future teacher it is all about the kids with me. To know that we are bringing joy to a child when we comment on what they do makes it all worth while. In Kaia's case she can not read these post so obviously her dad reads them to her. That is wonderful in my eyes because her parent is involved. The voice thread was a great idea to help her. I loved all the photos she took and how she described them as "this and that," too cute! The book Last Child In the Woods, seems inspiring for many parents. From what I have read about it I am inspired to take my own godchildren out to enjoy the atmosphere, while taking pictures. The most amazing thing about all this is connecting with people across the world. It is so awesome to network with a variety of people, it gives us all diversity and makes us more cultured. Interpid teacher was a good blog to read also, it was full of good points. You could tell the teacher was adamant bout how she felt. As for her questions concerning children being exposed to the internet. It is scary I will admit, but the learning is endless. There are a lot of crazy people in the world but I don't think they target school websites if any thing they are in chat rooms. I enjoyed these post.

Brown
This video was great and very powerful. Mr. Brown was confident and made you believe. I feel like he is on to something, education is mainly about facts. I can not say I blame institutional education completely, I also blame teachers. It is their responsibility to go beyond the average powerpoint presentations and engage the students. I have had many teachers, but less then a hand full of teachers who actually wanted me to learn and understand. Mostly all my teachers gave me facts and sent me home to study them then test me on them. The next week those facts were gone.
I am glad someone took a stand a realized this is only moving in a slow pace against a fast pace world. Children are learning what some adults do not even know as far as technology goes and what will happen when everyone uses the internet to figure out things and wont need school. A mind is a terrible thing to waste and time and money are also terrible to waste. You need your degree to get a good job, but something must change about teaching.
What does it mean to be educated? Does it mean you have a degree in a specific field or can you learn information for your self and be just as good as the person with a degree. I think this video should be taken serious and some teachers should work harder at becoming a 21st century teacher because time is passing by and change is often good. I am not afraid of things changing especially when I can benefit. The fact that education is so expensive and everything taught can be found on the free internet is pretty wrong. Things should be reevaluated in the sense of what education is actually trying to do.

ALEX
This website has lots of ins and outs, I focused on english mainly. It has information on every course by grade levels. The Alabama State Department of Education (SDE) provides technical assistance regarding the education of English Language Learners to school districts, schools, teachers, parents, and the community. This website provides a variety of resources that help meet this need. With this website teachers have access to information on best practices, professional organizations, and how to involve parents. This website is of great help you can develop lesson plans of all types.
I think the website is very helpful to many teachers. I also think it should be developed a little more better. The home page could say a little more for people trying to understand what ALEX is. Once you understand how helpful it is it is easy to use, just sign up. When I become a teacher I am sure I will revisit this website to receive the help I need. It is a great resource.

ACCESS
ACCESS stands for Alabama connecting classrooms, educators, and students statewide. This is some of the facts I received from the website. The goal of the distance learning plan is to create equity through additional educational offerings for all Alabama public high school students. The mission of the distance education program in Alabama is to provide an infrastructure that delivers equitable, quality learning opportunities for all citizens. The State of Alabama will provide equal access to high quality instruction to improve student achievement through distance learning. This site has many resources for students such as test preps, labs, and exams.
ACCESS appears to be a good resource for students in need of help. It is good to have this type of help. I am happy this website has been established. I love how helpful it is to all high school students across Alabama.

Randy Paush
In the beginning of this video I was not sure what to expect, the time was too long, and I was not in to it at all. It ended up being a very enjoyable. He started out explaining to us how he has 10 tumors and will be dying. He was very positive and not at all depressed about it. He expressed how he was not in denial and in excellent health, he actually did push ups on the stage to show his excellent condition.
Mr. Paush stated what we will not discuss in the beginning showing how efficient he is and too the point. We will not hear things about his family or discuss religion. He did start off by telling us what we will talk about which is his child hood dreams. He remembered he smiled in every childhood picture so that was always a good feeling. He also was a dreaming child his quote was "don't lose sight of anything being possible." His first dream was being in zero gravity. This dream did not work out so well, but he was able to complete it with his students. His second dream was to play in the NFL, this dream was a big stretch and was never completed. Instead he played football as a child, during this time his coach road him a lot and never gave up on him. Mr. Paush was able to appreciate that more then ever, because if someone gives up on you they do not care. He was glad this was a part of his life. His next dream was to write in an encyclopedia, and he wrote a article about virtual reality. His dream of being captain Kirk was impossible you can not be a person but you can meet them. He was able to do so and who would not want to meet there child hood ideal. Winning stuffed animals was my favorite dream of his. He took many pictures of winning them and gave five away at the end of the lecture. His next dream was being an imagineer and he completed that.
He is a humble man and does not mind expressing his appreciation of other teachers that can do a great job. His motto was to wait long enough and people will surprise and impress you. He discussed lessons learned and what helps you get to achieving your dream. The two incredible people in his life that helped him was his mother and father. They seemed to be a great inspiration to him and always stood behind him and encouraged him. Others who helped him included his teachers and mentors. A man he looked up to named Andy was the person who pushed him to go to graduate school. He helped others and says he will keep having fun till the day he dies.
In closing he had many inspirational quotes through out his lecture. One that stuck with me was the one he believed all women should hear about men, "when it comes to men that are interested in you, just ignore everything they say and pay attention to what they do." That quote I think was well put. I really and truly enjoyed this he was a good man and I wish I could have known him. He loved his wife dearly and to have 500 people sing to her was a great birthday gift. This is a life changing lecture and I am sure I will reach my dreams by living my life right after seeing this. I enjoyed this it was a great hour spent at my computer desk.

Mr. Miller
This video was rather boring in my opinion. It stated the facts which is a good thing though. I believe the world is moving towards more incremental changes rather than fundamental. In the past students worked with paper and pencil now they are bringing there laptops to class and working with word. The use of a library is not as important, because everything you need to find is on the world wide web. With this new innovation people can put up videos while conferencing on line.
The media uploaded now is live footage if you need to watch it that way. This is all making the world more versatile and high speed. He talks about academic lectures that are fundamentally different which is great. It is hard to understand if he is trying to teach us how to use this change or what, but I do know he talks about how they can not teach this.
In closing they are trying to push ideas into our culture about change and this is a good thing. People are also composing from the web now. This seems to be a great movement forward. I just need more clarity on what he is trying to teach us. I do think the future students will learn because our culture is technology literate.

Wendy Drexler
I enjoyed this video it was very creative. I loved how they used pictures during the video instead of people. The whole network student job is mainly done by self. The students control their own learning and help other students in the class along the way. This is done by the student adding blogs to the book mark on information they have found. Each student reads what has been wrote and comment on it. The reflection they add to the post is to enhance everyone's knowledge.
Many of the students receive information from iTunes U, this is a great source of information in regards to lectures and this allows them to learn from some of the best professors in the world. Each student also can participate in voice thread so they will leave something for the next generation. This can be great for people all around the world.
Why does the network student need a teacher? This is a great question, because most of the work is done outside the classroom. The teacher helps the student build the network. They also help them to communicate properly and how to retrieve information. The teacher helps them turn a engine search into a interesting scavenger hunt. The teacher helps to organize the students information and gives them skills for the 21st century.

Dr. Christie
This site can be very useful for all teachers. Not only teachers students, parents, nurses, doctors, anyone with children should know about this site. It is very informative she did a wonderful job setting it up. There are many helpful links such as the podcast link, instant messaging, multimedia, internet safety, rubrics, and so much more. She gave us net lingo that is very helpful cause it is so many new acronyms out today I can not keep up.
The podcast links were helpful in understanding podcasting all together because of how it can help in the classroom and being that we have a project coming up soon about it. She showed how to set up a web design's, discussed photography. the entire site can be useful I enjoyed searching it.

iTunes U
iTunes U is so amazing! I love it, it is a great idea for students and teachers. In today's world everybody has a iPhone or iPod and if not they will be moving toward it in no time. That makes this program easy and accessible. Now you don't have to use your iPod for only music and videos, now you can use it to learn. There are many things you can explore on it and that is always a plus, especially if you for got something you need to brush up on.
I know of friends in different programs in college that are going to this. My friend in nursing school says they are obligated to buy a itouch for next semester and wont need books. That may end up being excellent and cut book fees down a great deal. I love the fact that things you can learn are unlimited because the world has so much information and now it is right at your finger tips. For teachers this is a good tool especially when you have students with disabilities because it has available voice over and a built in screen reader on MAC. Over all this is a great advancement in technology.

Duke
At Duke University since last year the number of students using iPods in the classroom has quadrupled, also the number of courses incorporating the devices has doubled. Many of the students and courses used the iPods as part of the Duke iPod First Year Experience, this has grown into Duke Digital Initiative (DDI). They issued free iPods to undergrads entering there first year in 2004 for the course who required them. They feel like this is broadening the technology use.
The use of iPods and MP3 players on campus is through the roof and has allowed center of institutional technology to switch its focus from introducing the tools to faculty and students to developing content for the devices.
Both fourth-generation photo iPods and fifth-generation video iPods will be distributed to students enrolled DDI courses, depending upon specific course requirements. Students enrolled in DDI courses using iPods will pick them up from the university Help Desk, and will be responsible for them throughout their time at Duke. Students who have already been given an iPod by the university will not be given new ones. In some cases, students who previously received an iPod may be eligible to trade in their old model for a newer one if the course they are enrolled in requires functionality not available on their original model. Duke has taken the use of iPods to another level and is a great movement toward new technology.

Comments 4Kids Week 6

I commented on Comments 4kids pestuala. I loved the introduction to room 9, with the background music and the students pictures it was very cute. From the looks of the blog it seems like they have a wonderful time at school. They make yummy snacks, all the students seem happy, and they are also learning which is the most important part. I love the student post with instructions on how to make snacks they speak English very well.

Comments 4Kids Week 4

I left a comment on Yessy Science project. In the video the student made she was speaking a little too low to hear. She was very precise in explaining her science project to the viewer though. Very good job.

Wikipedia
After reading and listening to the video this all confirms what I have heard for many years about the usage of Wikipedia. For a long time now anytime I wrote a paper for class or looked up information for class my teachers would always say not to use Wikipedia. I would never understand why, because all the information I read on Wikipedia seems true. I did not realize that it was so easy to change information on Wikipedia for anyone. Anyone can make edits to this online encyclopedia, but in return a record is kept on what they change. They can be tracked only by their user name and anonymous changes leave a record of the IP address.
Many times big companies use this to their advantage and add positive information or delete critical information people should know. I believe in the future this could become a bad thing for Wikipedia. If people keep finding out they can change information on anything they will start slandering the competition, even lie about their own company. This is a very controversial issue and it is a good thing Mr. Griffin was able to discover this.

What I've Learned This Year

This blog was very enlightening I love to see his growth as a teacher. Many times we want things to be perfect but he simply states that the lesson you teach and the one you plan are always different. As a future teacher that is important to know because it is almost impossible to stay on task as a teacher of children. All of his comments were helpful. In the beginning he states that the teachers never make their lessons student centered. This is very important because sometimes you get so caught up in making sure you tell the students everything they need to know, but you do check to see if they are actually learning it. I enjoyed this blog and it gives me some courage to know that things will not go as planned but after the first year hopefully it all comes together and you grow as a teacher.

The Benefits of Pod casting In a Class room
This video was a good help to open my eyes to what pod cast is all about. I was not very interested in doing a pod cast before this video. This video helped me see the relevance in learning to use pod cast, because I realize how helpful it will be for my future students. In this production it discussed all the benefits to using pod cast from the teachers point of view, students, and even the principal.
First they discussed how it was very effective with students outside of the classroom for a long period of time or because of a sickness. The student does not get behind because the resource is available to them at home. Technology is not new to children born in the 80's. We do not know life with out technology so it is more natural for us to adapt to new technology. The students use a higher learning skill, while promoting creativity and innovation which is wonderful and what we want from students. The process is said to be easy once you have done it.
The teacher enjoys it because if needed they can have other teachers read with them and make for a more interesting story during class. Students like it a lot they say it is exciting, interesting, and their parents are not complaining about them listening to Beyonce' all the time. The principal is behind pod cast, because it is effective for projects to expand the students thinking and parents are able to see or hear what their child actually learns and does in class. Pod cast seems to be a new movement in technology and I can see the potential benefits with it.

SmartboardLesson Pod Cast/Kid Cast
Podcast is new to me and it is very interesting. I loved this podcast it was very informal. All teachers using smartboards in the classroom should listen to this podcast. It tells you all the different tools that can be used with the board. Down loadable lessons are available and many other links for the smartboard. I felt comfortable listening to this podcast the guys are entertaining and seem welcoming. While listening to the kid cast podcast they were discussing re-aggregation of information for your students or teachers. Which is pulling things together to provide an organized base to view ideas. He talked about how you pay and go to conference for this information and must pay for the tapes also. He did not agree with that. He was very clear with his instructions on what he wanted us to know. This pod cast was set up very well and well thought out.

Teachers Creative Material Podcast
This pod cast is about building vocabulary using Greek and Latin word groups. It raised questions on vocabulary and comprehension ability. This pod cast was excellent. It had different speakers and they worked together with this podcast on the same topic. The flow was smooth and transition from person to person was done very precise. Each person speaking spent off of each other and spoke intelligently.
KidCast #62
This podcast was titled some thoughts on video podcast. I figured it would be interesting to hear being that I will be doing a podcast myself next week. In this podcast the instructor talked clearly and give me a better outlook on doing my own podcast, even influenced me to want to do a video podcast format. He talked about the similarities of video podcast versus podcast. They are very close except one is just on video. He broke down examples of each and the pros and cons to each.
Teachers Connecting with Podcast #10 and #11
This podcast is a great listen for teachers who are introducing technology in to their classroom. In this podcast a co host was in it just like the podcast earlier. This is a great tool when doing a podcast to have a partner to help you get through the presentation. The ideas posted on my other teachers connecting podcast to help you use the technology are giving in a meaningful and remembered way. In podcast #10 they talked about collabaraion in the classroom with technology. It would be very helpful to listen to by a teacher. I enjoyed each podcast and the way they are set up. I hope my podcast is well organized and thought out and it will turn out great.

Additional Post
Media Literacy
The children on this post were very literate when it came to the class blog. I was amazed at how much they knew and what they are doing at such a young age. It shocked me because that is what we are doing in this class now. The children were able to give step by step instructions on how to comment and post them. Also they know what to say on their comments such as be nice, do not leave bad comments and be helpful. I enjoyed the video.
Little kids-Big potential
Great video from these kids. I am amazed because at this age I was not computer literate so it is great to see how earlier children are learning. Each child has there own computer, a lot of high school students do not have this kind of access so that shows that this is a good supportive school. With the children learning this young their potential is very bright. I love the fact that the children blog and their family can comment on what they write, this also gives parents security in knowing their child is learning in school. The children also notice that their writing gets better each time they blog, with that being said they work hard to do better. This is all a great advance in the world of 2025 graduate students!

A Vision of Students Today
In this video the points made were very clear and true to me as a college student. My class never consists of over hundred students, but I can say all my teachers do not know my name. The things students are doing in class today is chatting on face book or playing on myspace. Instead of doing homework or something that has to do with class. One point they did not point out on the video that i think students could relate to is the fact that a lot of students procrastinate their assignments. They wait till the last minute and it is so hard to devote your spare time to school work because you rather sleep or anything other then school work.
The way this video was created had a great set up I love the class room and all the students writing what they really feel. I laughed at most of them because I could see myself thinking that same thing while in class. The point made about how much we spend on books oppose to how much we use them is a great argument. Spending thousands on books in your entire school career is unnecessary they should be rented or borrowed because you hardly use them in lots of classes due to power points. Overall I enjoyed the presentation and would advise other people to watch it.

"It's Not About The Technology"

I really enjoyed reading Mrs. Hines post and agree with lots of comments made on the post. The most important thing in education is students learning and teaching the students. Technology is the future and the future for lots of the children this is very important in their education and if we do not know how to use it how can they learn. I am often challenged with learning new technology, but being that I have become accustom to technology it does not take long. It is definitely not what needs to change in classes first.
Teachers should find new and innovative ways to teach students as if technology does not exist. Many years ago technology was not even used. If it was not important then it is obvious the world can still work with out it. I stand behind teachers being perpetual learners. You must continue to use your brain as a teacher and learn daily, no learning equals no good teaching. Learning is the goal and we should put all we have in it to make it whole. As we get better teaching devices we should use them to the students advantage not waste the tax payers money. Possibilities are endless when it come to teaching young people and it is not just about technology.

"Is it ok to be a Technologically Illiterate Teacher"

The statement made by the Fischbowl was "If a teacher today is not technologically literate, and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more. It's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who did not know how to read and write." This statement is very very extreme. Technology is the future and is today but comparing them to people who can not read is harsh. Many times computers and other technology are hard to understand and many classes taken on it make it even worse. I am not sure if people are illiterate to technology or just do not want the change. Change is a big deal and I pray every one come to the new day.
In this blog they talked about how important it is for teachers to have the basic knowledge on technology, I so agree with this teachers teach and they should know lots of information on different topics. With out knowing technology this could potentially jeopardise the chances for younger children. Students should be encouraged to learn and they should lead by example. If their teachers know they will want to know. Overall this was very interesting and the person who wrote it was very passionate about technology literacy and I could tell. I love his outspokenness and hope it comes through to some people who should learn all they need to be technologically literate.

Gary's Haye's Social Media Counts

My first thought to Gary's media account was wow. I am amazed at the numbers and how quickly they go up, also how many people have adjusted to technology so quickly. Technology is not cheap at all and to have so many people using it shows how wealthy this country is. As a professional teacher this information is significant. To know that so many people use technology and know what they are doing makes the you see the 21st century very special. Teachers can use these facts in their advantage to make class easier for students. You can email and get assignments to students, you can see progress from each student through blogs, and also keep everyone in the mind frame of America growing.
This all makes you wonder where people were getting information from with out the computer and search engines such as google. It also is excellent for people to express themselves using twitter and facebook. You tube is also a big thing these days many of my teachers currently have me viewing homework and skills videos from that cite. These numbers will continue to grow every second and I am focus and ready to learn any new technology I need to become a professional teacher teaching the most important people in the world our students, they are the future.

Did You Know?

My first reaction to this video was wow! I never realized how much I did not know until I was told these amazing things. One of the first statements made about India and America was a big disappointment, it said that 25% of India's population with the highest IQ's is greater then the total population of the United States. That gets me to thinking on our education system compared to India's are we not teaching our students? Should we adopt some of there habits? What can be done to improve our IQ's? For them to have more honors kids then we have kids is embarrassing. In regards to the statement that said the top 10 jobs of 2010 did not even exist in 2004 tells me that we are growing as a nation in a good way.

The fact that one out of 8 people married met online last year is awesome, I never payed attention to online relationships but that says that they can be done. When they stated that the number of text sent and received a everyday exceeds the total population of the planet I know that is a fact because i seen about 200 a day myself. The internet is a great device and I am glad it is around to help, it is very fast growing in users and helps with everyday life. I don't know what the world would come to if we did not have internet access. This video was very enlightening.

Mr. Winkle Wakes

My first reaction to this video was this will be so boring. It actually turned out ok once I watched it again. The irony of this video is that after 100 years school has not changed in his eyes besides the computer. We all know that it has to be some what different but Mr. Winkle felt comfortable there more then any other place he visited that day. It made me think of older people and how they would react to this new technology if they were still around. I know it would be a slow transformation because my mother is just now learning to text.

Mr. Winkle did not understand the hospital technology and how machines could keep people alive. 100 years ago people just died mainly so to see people being helped would shock me if i was him also. Mr. Winkle will come to love the new world hopefully it will just take time to adjust which is understandable. I enjoyed the video.

Ken Robinson
Before watching this video I was very interested in learning what it will be about just because of the title. It is a good topic that should be spoke about and possibly get to the bottom of. In the beginning he said that creativity is as important as literacy and should be treated the same. That statement was powerful and I understood it greatly because in school you are not often taught to be talented of express your creative side your either scared of getting embarrassed or saying the wrong thing. If students are scared it will educate them out of there creative side. Lots of times children grow out of it they could have been a great painter or poet but was never pushed due to the need to know math or psychology.
He also made a good point about dance saying we do not teach it like other subjects. With out dance being offered we could be passing up a great dance student but how will they reach there potential if it is not offered. There are many this people could do with there talent if they discovered it. We as future educators should rethink the principles we are educating people on. We may not see there future but our job is to help them make something out of it and I stand behind that notion 100%.

Digital Smart
My reaction to this video is that I think it is awesome some teachers are excited and want to teach the world of technology. I do not think it is complicated to learn but I would never want to teach it. I would like to know more about a flat classroom they mentioned it in the video and I was not fallowing what they were talking about. Personally I have never been a person that wanted to be in class writing on paper all day. I think if every student could use the computer in class things would go by so much easier. Teachers could send emails of power points and students be allowed to keep up that way.
I love how the teacher made the students search and think like when she would say a new word that is the whole point in learning and being a teacher, having students do for themselves is a great concept. I also think the idea of an upside down classroom where the student teaches. That is a great way to get them involved and help them learn because they don't have much of a choice if they are to teach it. The video was short and to the point and I enjoyed it.
